Jean Zuidema was born in Totowa, NJ in 1930 to Harry and Julia Bushman. She was welcomed by siblings Nellie, Theresa and William.
She graduated from Calvin College with her BA in Education and went on to teach in the Eastern Christian School system for 35 years, spending most of her time in the areas of Health, Physical Education and Science. Even after retirement, she assisted with the afterschool program at Unity Christian Reformed Church in Prospect Park, NJ, and went on to lead a group for the Women’s bible Study Fellowship.
Jean married William Zuidema Jr. in 1957 and went on to have 4 children: Patricia(deceased); Judith who resides in South Carolina with her husband Tom; Mary who resides in NJ with her husband Dave and Bill who resides in Massachusetts with his wife, Sheryl.
Ever the educator, there were many moments with her 7 grandchildren (Allison, Rachel, Sarah, Hannah, Kristin, Jeanae and Justin) that were full of learning experiences. She was also so proud to be able to welcome 3 great grandchildren (Charlotte, Eloise, and Ryan) in the past 3 years!
Jean will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion, her love of educating others and her dedication to Christ. She was the prayer warrior that had a list of needs to bring before the Lord that was a mile long. When there was a prayer request…. we let her know….she would alert the prayer chain……and we always believed that she had a direct line to the Lord, because miracles happened!
Jean's burial will be private in the Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa. The Zuidema family extends an invitation to a memorial service on Saturday, September 6 at 12 noon. This will be at the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, 422 Cedar Hill Avenue, Wyckoff. In lieu of flowers; memorial contributions in Jean's name may be made to the Eastern Christian School Association or Hope Christian Services (formerly Eastern Christian Children's Retreat).
We love you mom…. you are missed….. but you have graduated on to a new life with Christ….and we will see you again! XOXOXOXO
