Jeanne Ten Kate, 93, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2025. She was a faithful servant of her Lord.
Jeanne was born on December 4, 1931 in Friesland, the Netherlands, to Jacob and Grace (Schaper) Hornstra. The family immigrated to the United States when she was 18 and settled in Midland Park, NJ, where Jeanne lived for the rest of her life. She became a member of First Reformed, which changed to Faith Reformed Church in Midland Park. She was very active in the church as a Women’s Guild officer and Bible Study leader for many years. She also used her gift of hospitality to cook and serve many church dinners and helped in the VBS program there. Upon arrival in this country, she worked at Clixies and later used those waitressing skills catering at the Market Basket. She was known to keep a very clean home, but that never stopped her from filling it with friends and family over the years. In her spare time, she could be found exercising at the gym. She also helped take care of her grandchildren, the loves of her life. She became a familiar face around town, as she walked every day, no matter what the weather. Jeanne added feeding the birds to her walks the last few years of her life.
Jeanne is survived by her daughters, Laurie Ten Kate and Kristen and her husband Jim Amos all of Midland Park; daughter-in-law, Nancy Ten Kate of Freeville NY; her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Beppe: Mike and his wife Julie Ten Kate of Virgil NY, Nathan Amos and his fiancee Ciara, Anna, and Jeremy Amos all of Midland Park; great-granddaughters, Callie and Maddy Ten Kate of Virgil NY, sisters Tilly Hammond of Brooksville FL and Hummy Van De Weert of Dryden NY and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Don, sons Don and Paul, sister Helen and brother, Paul.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, January 16 from 4-6 at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17 at 10 AM at Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect St. Midland Park.
