John H. Dyk, 87 of North Haledon, went to his eternal home in Heaven on Monday, December 16, 2024. He was born in Prospect Park to the late Thomas and Nellie (nee: Grinwis) Dyk. John married Doris Littel in 1961 and lived in Prospect Park before moving to North Haledon. They were married for 51 years. He served his country faithfully in the Army for 5 years. During his Career he worked as a Machine Designer for Dixie American Can Company, which later became James River Corporation. John was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Paterson, where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Booster Club for Eastern Christian School Association. Later he became a member of Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, Wyckoff, where he served as an Elder and participated in the Friendship Ministry. For the last 10 years he has been a member of Rockpoint Community Church, North Haledon. He also served as President of the Terrace Lake Christian Recreation Association in Butler.
John and Doris enjoyed many years of camping in their motorhome with their children and grandchildren. They were members of the Christian Campers Club of N.J. Two of their favorite family vacation destinations were Myrtle Beach, SC and Lake George, NY. John was always willing to help others with transportation, fixing items around their house, or visiting those in need.
After Doris passed in 2013, John married Sue Ann (nee: Veenstra) Woudenberg and they spent nine happy years together. John is survived by his loving daughters, Marianne and her husband Doug Bushoven and Bethanne and her husband Scott Tanis both of North Haledon. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Bryan Bushoven and his wife Katelyn, Steve Bushoven, Heather DeSiervo and her husband Joseph, Matthew Bushoven and his wife Monica, Holly Tanis, and Rachael Zeug and her husband Derek. A loving great-grandfather to Joey and Zachary, and his expected great grandson (January 2025). Also surviving are his wife, Sue Ann and her family. John was predeceased by his brother Hubert Dyk in 2019.
The Dyk family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 4:00 until 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be private in the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
