Giovanni Battista Salvatore Gagliardi, known to all as John, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on April 1, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, John was a vibrant spirit who brought joy to everyone around him.
John lived a life filled with love and laughter. A proud veteran of the Army and Merchant Marines, he cherished the camaraderie and dedication to service that defined his years in uniform.
An avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, John cheered passionately for his teams. His zest for life extended to playing "the numbas," collecting muscle cars, and indulging in the thrill of gambling, often alongside his brother, Tom. Whether betting on horses, spinning the poker slots, or enjoying a game of roulette, he found joy in every wager. A true life of the party, his infectious enthusiasm made every gathering a celebration.
John was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Cori Gagliardi, and grandson, Rory McCarthy. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula Gagliardi; his children, Dina McCarthy and John Gagliardi; his grandchildren, Johnny, Ryan, Sean, Hannah, Madeline, and Giovanni; his great-grandson, Liam; his son-in-law, John McCarthy; his daughter-in-law, Kujdes Gagliardi; and his brother, Tom Gagliardi.
John held immense affection for his family and friends, especially for the love of his life, Paula. He adored and doted on her, cherishing every moment they spent together.
He will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, Brooklyn euphemisms, epic storytelling, and the laughter he shared with everyone. John leaves behind a close-knit family that will carry on his legacy of love and laughter. His light will continue to shine through the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear friend.
