It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Montalbano (45), who peacefully left this world on December 23, 2024, at his home in Franklin Lakes surrounded by his family & loving & caring nurse.
John was a beloved husband to his wife Francesca and an amazing father to his three sons Luca (11), Enzo (8) and Nico (6). Family was John’s greatest accomplishment. He was a true family man. His commitment to them was most evident this past year. Despite being sick he made it to every single sporting event, school function and played with them as much as he could. John was a loving husband of 18 years and knew he was going to marry her the night they met. He was Fran’s protector, the love of her life, her everything.
He leaves behind his parents, Anthony & Santamaria, sister Cara, brother Marc (Tara), father in law Antonio and pre-deceased mother-in-law Pasqua, brother-in-law Nick (Kelly) and extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
John was honored to serve in the US Air Force as a Senior Airman for 8 years. He felt a strong sense of duty to serve his country and we are so proud of him for that. He is a war veteran, having gone to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. He continued his mission to serve with a 20+ year career with PSE&G where he met some lifelong friends or as they refer to each other as brothers.
Beyond his professional life John loved to travel, play golf, go to comedy shows and always make people laugh. For the past 5 years he enjoyed spending time at his beach house in Ocean Beach II where he enjoyed watching the sunsets, biking, fishing, crabbing, and relaxing on the sand.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, December 29th 3-6pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A funeral Mass is planned for Monday, December 30th 10am at Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 787 Franklin Lake Rd, Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417. Entombment to follow at Garden of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of John to Memorial Sloan Kettering.
