Joseph "Joe" DeMatteo passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023, at the age of 83 surrounded by his family. Joe is survived by his wife Claudia, his two children, Jackie Jacobs and husband Stan Jacobs, and David DeMatteo and wife Cristina DeMatteo, and 5 grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Connor, Devon and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his father, John DeMatteo, mother, Philomena Santoro, and sister Rose DeMatteo.
Joe was a devoted husband, father and friend to many. Joe and Claudia were married for 59 years and shared a love of travel, spending time with family and friends, volunteering at several local organizations including the Wycoff YMCA and the Luckow Pavilion at Valley Hospital. His favorite pastimes included fishing, playing bocce and ping pong with his friends at the Y, cooking (especially homemade Italian specialties such as fresh pasta, eggplant parmesan, and lasagna), gardening, the annual 4th of July cookout with his famous ribs, and traveling with Claudia and their many friends. He was a selfless person who always put everyone's needs above his own and would do anything for anyone. He supported and loved his two children and their families and was incredibly proud of them. Affectionately known as "Pop Pop" by his grandchildren, nothing brought him more joy than actively participating in their lives and watching them grow.
Pop Pop will be remembered for his contagious laughter, friendly smile, and outgoing personality.
