Joseph James Tenicki, age 80, of Glen Rock, died peacefully on October 21, 2023, in Paramus, New Jersey.
Born in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Helen Tenicki, Joe grew up on the south side of Chicago. He graduated from Thornton High School, then attended the University of Illinois for his undergraduate education and a masters’ degree in nuclear physics, which led to an early career in the energy sector. He later earned his MBA from New York University and then moved his talents to the world of investment banking and consulting for the remainder of his career.
Joe found not only his intellectual passion at Illinois, he also met his life’s love, Cynthia, marrying in 1965. They built an amazing life and family together with three wonderful children, Peter, Christopher, and Samantha, and many dearly loved pets.
Joe devoted his time to pursuing his many passions and building a lifetime of memories with family and friends - his favorites were family travel, scuba diving, skiing, and sailing on their treasured boat, Fervour. He never stopped searching for “the best” of everything and wanted to make sure others found those things, too - whether it was the best movie, the best local pizza, or the best wine.
Joe is survived by his wife, Dr. Cynthia Tenicki, sons Peter and Christopher, daughter Samantha (Nathan) Hole, grandchildren Jonathan and Colin Hole, sisters Nancy (Raymond) Kremsreiter and Roberta Swatek, and nieces Amanda Lee and Alyssa Johnsen. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph, mother Helen, brother Randolph, and brother-in-law James Swatek.
Family and friends are to gather for a memorial visitation on Thursday, October 26 from 3-5pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Brief words of remembrance will be offered at 4:30pm. Private burial for immediate family will be held on Friday, October 27.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society.
