Josephine “Jo” Acquaviva, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. She was born on March 14, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY, where she spent her childhood surrounded by family. After marriage, she moved to Wayne, NJ where she resided for over 60 years.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, A. Thomas Acquaviva, her brother, Angelo Parisi, and her most beloved son, Paul Andrew Acquaviva, who she lost in the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Jo is survived by her daughter Kara Hadfield and husband Jamie, her sister Frances Troccoli and husband Frank, grandchildren Jack, Caroline and George Hadfield and Sarah and Paul Acquaviva, and several most loved nieces and nephews.
A former registered nurse, Jo dedicated her life to caring for others. Her outgoing nature and beautiful smile made her a beloved figure in her community. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people, always ready to share a joke or a laugh, and she cherished the friendships she built throughout her life.
Jo was always happiest when her family was together. Her and her husband Tom had 57 wonderful years of marriage, raising their family and enjoying their grandchildren. Vacationing at the beach or spending time in Florida surrounded by her children and grandchildren were Jo’s treasured moments. She held dear her monthly lunches with her brother, her daily phone calls with her sister, and her visits with cousins living near and far. A devoted grandmother, Jo found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will live on with them forever.
She will always be remembered cooking her Sunday dinners, never happier than when family and friends were enjoying a meal around her table. Jo was so very loved by all that was blessed to know her, and she will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 17 from 11-1pm.
