We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kathy Finnegan. Her kindness and love profoundly touched the lives of many and left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kathleen Ellen Hanley Finnegan, affectionately known as Kathy, peacefully departed this world on December 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Born to Edmond and Genevieve Hanley on November 29, 1950, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Kathy grew up in Demarest, NJ, alongside her beloved sister, Patricia.
Kathy's early education at Holy Angels Academy in Demarest laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to caring for others. She pursued her passion for nursing at Holy Name Nursing School in Teaneck, NJ, graduating in 1971. Kathy went on to work at Holy Name Hospital and dedicated over two decades to her profession, where her compassionate nature touched countless lives.
In 1975, Kathy married John Finnegan of Paramus, NJ. Their journey together took them across several states, including Michigan and Pennsylvania, before they settled in Wyckoff, NJ, in 1987. They built a loving home there and raised their two children, Kieran and Katie.
Kathy's greatest joy was her family. She cherished her role as a devoted mother and as “Granny" to her four grandchildren: Finnegan, Maggie, Cormac, and Declan. Summers at the Jersey Shore, particularly in Spring Lake, were filled with laughter and cherished memories as Kathy hosted family and friends, creating a haven of warmth and joy.
Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, John; her sister, Patricia Tashjian and husband John of Paramus; her children, Kieran of Wyckoff and Katie Magee, along with Katie's husband Jon of Wyckoff; and her treasured grandchildren, Finnegan, Maggie, Cormac, and Declan; along with her many nieces and nephews who adored her.
We want to acknowledge the incredible support of Kathy’s lifelong friend, Peggy Nolan. Throughout Kathy's journey, Peggy provided love, comfort, and unwavering assistance.
Kathy's life is a testament to the power of love and service, and her memory will forever be a guiding light for her family and friends.
