Kathleen Lawler, 67, of Waldwick, died October 16, 2024 at Villa Marie Claire in Saddle River.
She was born in the Bronx on September 13, 1957 to the late James and Nellie Hone. Raised in West New York, NJ with her eight siblings, Kathleen attended St. Joseph’s of the Palisades High School. She briefly attended Ramapo College before making a five-week, cross-country drive with her friend to start a new life in San Francisco.
After a year and a half in California, Kathleen found her way back to New Jersey. She worked various jobs, including on Wall Street and at the New York Power Authority, before eventually returning to school to pursue a new career - nursing. The NICU at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital brought her many years of joy. She ended her 30-year healthcare career at Holy Name Hospital in March of this year.
Kathleen was widely known for her commitment to Halloween costumes in celebration of her favorite holiday. You could always find her in the middle of the dance floor, even if it was just a living room. She was also a reliable customer at any ice cream shop, especially Dairy Queen and Bischoff’s, something she has certainly passed down to the next generation of family members.
Kathleen leaves her husband of 26 years, George, son, Griffin, brothers James (Janelle), Daniel (Evelyn), John (Patricia), Charles, sisters Mary (Damian), Helen (George), Margaret (Scott), and Susan. The beloved “Aunt Kathleen” also leaves 16 nieces and nephews, 4 grand-nieces, many other honorary nieces and nephews, and lots of loved ones.
Visitation will be from 2 PM to 7 PM on Sunday, October 20 at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. A funeral mass will follow at 10 AM on Monday, October 21 at St. Luke’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus.
