Lawrence Scorzelli

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence C. Scorzelli, 81. Born August 26, 1944, in the Bronx, NY.  He passed away at home in Ranson, WV, on April 7, 2026, surrounded by family.

He is predeceased by his parents, Edith and Lorenzo, and sister Joanne. 

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughter Lisa, son-in-law Joe Dille, son Larry, daughter-in-law Danielle, son Eugene, and daughter-in-law Janeen.  He was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather to Crystal, Allison, Alexis, Paige, Abigal and Andrew. Nothing gave him greater pleasure in life than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Camielle, his sister Lorraine, and his nieces and nephews.

He was in the first class to graduate from Henry J. Bruckner Junior High, better known as 101. He loved fixing and driving cars. He graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational-Technical High School in 1962 and became an auto mechanic for Chrysler.

He met Kathleen in 1963. They were married in 1965 at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church.

While living in The Bronx, he became a tractor-trailer driver for United Transportation and a member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters. He worked many arduous hours to provide a wonderful, secure life for his family. In 1978, moved his family to Waldwick, NJ, where he became a Boy Scout Leader, worked on Waldwick High School Graduation Balls, served as a volunteer fireman for the Waldwick Fire Department, and was a member of The Knights of Columbus.

His appetite for education and knowledge never ended. He attended the National Fire Academy, Bergen County College, Rutgers, Bergen County Department of Public Safety, and NJ Department of Community Affairs. He is a Life Member of the NJ Building Officials Association.  He attained numerous certificates, licenses, and awards. 

His work experience spanned decades. He held various positions, including Construction official, building inspector, fire subcode & fire prevention for various towns, including Senior Plan Examiner and Chief Plan Examiner for the New Jersey Meadowland Commission.  After retiring, he and his family moved to West Virginia, where he was appointed to the Building Code Board of Appeals.  

He had a passion for traveling with Kathleen and his family. He loved visiting other countries such as Australia, China, Italy, and Germany, just to name a few.  His favorite place to visit was Hawaii.
