Mahwah – James Leo Glynn passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, April 29, 2021.
Leo was born in Newburgh, New York, on April 11, 1957. Leo was a graduate of Nyack College and received his Master’s Degree at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is listed in “Who’s Who” Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.
Leo was a pioneer in the Food Industry with a passion for the Ice Cream Industry. He was president of National Frozen Distribution Consultants, Co-Owner of Calip Dairies, President of Eskimo Pie and General Manager of Dreyer’s/Edy’s Grand Ice Cream. More recently, Leo was the Owner of Mahwah Logistics, LLC., an Amazon Delivery Service Partner. He also played a major role in the New Jersey Food Council, Friends of the Food Industry, Food Industry for Covenant House and the EFFA.
An avid golfer, Leo traveled frequently to Ireland to play golf with his friends and colleagues. He was a long-time and well-loved member of Hackensack Golf Club, and at the time of his passing served as a member of the Club’s Board of Trustees. Leo instilled the love of golf in his son Connor, and as a fixture at Hackensack cared deeply for the well being of the Club’s employees. When early restrictions caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic denied Hackensacks' caddies their livelihoods, Leo spear headed a private fund raising drive to provide them assistance until golf and caddying could resume. The drive was an astonishing success, and Leo will be greatly missed by the caddies, employees, and members of Hackensack Golf Club.
Leo, a one time marathon runner, completed the New York City Marathon in 1992. He loved spending summers with his family in Barnegat Light, NJ. Leo was a pillar of the communities he lived in, always coming to the assistance of all his friends and neighbors and lived life to the fullest.
He is pre-deceased by his mother and father, John and Margaret Glynn. Surviving is his wife Ellen and their children Allison and Connor, his former wife Susan Kipp and their children Lauren (Mike) DiMaulo of Ridgewood and Diane Murray of River Edge and son-in-law Tom Murray of River Edge. He is also survived by his step- mother, Carol Glynn of Newburgh, his in-laws Vincent and Elizabeth Sparano of Waretown, his grandchildren Hannah and Morgan Murray and William and James DiMaulo, his brothers Jack (Shirley) Glynn of Newburgh and Rory (Pam) Glynn of Newburgh, his nephew Patrick, and nieces Michele and Jessica.
He will also be loved and missed by many other family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 3:00 – 7:00pm on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff NJ. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ on Tuesday, May 4th at 11:15am. Interment will follow Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Ave, Mahwah, NJ. All guidelines will be followed and face masks are required for all services.
