Lola Carmela Singh (1941–2026)
Lola Carmela Singh, a woman whose warmth, grace, and boundless capacity for love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, Manjit, and her loving daughter, Anjuli and is survived by her other daughter, Neesha.
Born on July 16, 1941, Lola lived a life defined by her nurturing spirit and her deep devotion to family. To her husband, Manjit, she was not only a beautiful and kind partner but a constant source of joy. Whether she was hosting extended family gatherings for 30 people at Thanksgiving or effortlessly blending Indian and Italian cuisines to share with loved ones, Lola made every moment feel like a celebration. Her home was a sanctuary, often filled with the laughter of family, the smell of delicious cooking, and the vibrant culture she loved so dearly.
Lola’s greatest pride was her role as a mother to Neesha and Anjuli. She often remarked that raising them was the best "full-time job" she ever had. She poured her heart into making every holiday and birthday special from the meticulous "goodie bags" she crafted for childhood parties to the elaborate birthday displays she continued to create as they grew. She instilled in them a love for family traditions, the joy of the Jersey Shore, and the simple beauty of a life well-lived.
In her valuable free time, she was an avid reader who turned pages daily, a fan of Broadway theater, and a lover of music. The car rides of her daughters' childhoods were soundtracked by the songs of Carly Simon, Peggy Lee, and Simon and Garfunkel. Whether she was driving her cool red convertible (which Neel may have run over a curb one day), swimming, or laughing over recipes with Anjuli, Lola moved through the world with a gentle, enduring smile.
Her care extended far beyond her immediate household. She possessed a legendary, life-saving instinct; in a moment of true heroism, she once dove fully clothed into her pool to save her nephew, Deep, without a second’s hesitation. This spirit of service defined her career as a dedicated healthcare professional, just as it defined her role as a grandmother to Jay, Lia, and Taj. She was their greatest fan, always eager to hear about their latest milestones, and she spent months in Boston during Taj’s infancy to help care for him. Her passions like reading were passed on through the magic of stories like Goodnight Moon.
Later in life, she found true peace by the ocean - a dream she realized by moving to an oceanfront home in Florida where she could entertain her lifelong fascination with the moon. She would enjoy a warm cup of coffee in the mornings, and at the end of the day, she cheered and clinked a glass of wine with Manjit.
Even in her final days, her character shone through. Throughout her time in the ICU, she remained the same woman her family adored. Her final moments were a testament to the love that sustained her: holding Manjit’s hand with one and Anjuli’s with the other. She departed with a knowing smile, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, inclusivity, and an unwavering belief in the power of family.
Lola Singh leaves behind a world made warmer by her presence. Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Manjit, her daughters, Neesha and Anjuli, her grandchildren, Jay, Lia, and Taj, and the many family members and friends who were made better simply by knowing her.
