Lorre Strain Welsh, a beloved resident of Brandywine Senior Living in Mahwah NJ, quietly passed away on December7, 2025, after reaching her amazing 100-year milestone.
Lorre was born to Joseph and Marie Strain and was raised in a Philadelphia suburb with four siblings. From an early age she exhibited a unique artistic talent and spent her formative years nurturing that talent, ultimately culminating in a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ramapo College while raising her family.
Lorre and her husband Arthur shared a great love story. They first met at a college party. Lorre had another date that night that fortunately went poorly, and our father came to her rescue. At that time Lorre was more interested in pursuing her career, but our father had other plans and pursued her. They married within 9 months of setting eyes on each other. They matched each other brilliantly and the family that followed, 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren are proud and blessed to call them Mom and Dad, Nani and Pop-Pop.
Early in their marriage, Lorre and Art moved to NJ where they raised their five children, Anna Christine (Tina), Christopher, Erin, Arthur and Lisa. Lorre, was a member of the Ridgewood Art Barn as a fellow painter and muse for several high-profile artists in the area. Consolidating her passion for arts and antiques, Lorre opened “Gallery Montage” in Midland Park, NJ, where she established her studio to exhibit her art along with other selected artisans and participated in local antique shows. She held a one-woman art show at the Ridgewood Stable in 2002. A portion of her prolific portfolio is captured in a curated art book.
Lorre also enjoyed all sports. She was a natural on the tennis court and was quick to play ready-golf with great confidence. Her fashion style was also unprecedented, a classic look in every sense.
Lorre, a beautiful soul was always generous with her time and her many talents. She blessed her family with the gift of faith and the lesson to practice love before all. Using her creative talents, she created a “Sea Monster Club” for her children which encapsulated those values. This tradition continues to this day and is a guiding light for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Supporting the importance of education, Lorre and Arthur made investing in the next generation’s education a path to success for their children’s children.
We will miss our mom, her smile and gentle presence here on earth but her memory will be instilled forever in our hearts.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for Lorre on Friday, December 19, 2025 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
