LuAnne Brady Obituary

LuAnne Brady (Contello), 55, passed away on February 22, 2024 surrounded by her family after a courageous 22-month-long battle with cancer, which she fought with ultimate grace.

LuAnne is survived by her husband: Jim, children: Mary and James, parents: Maryann and Sal Contello of Massapequa Park, NY, siblings: James Contello and MargaretAnn Stytzer (Contello), sisters-in-law: Marie Nutting (Brady), Eileen Smith (Brady), Patricia Rudin (Brady), brother-in-law: Kevin Brady, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and her dog, Ellie. Outside of her family, many friends, neighbors, and co-workers were lucky to love LuAnne as well.

LuAnne was born on December 28, 1968 in Brooklyn, NY and was raised on Long Island in Massapequa Park. While working in Manhattan, she met and fell in love with her husband, Jim. The two married on August 6, 1994 and moved to New Jersey. After having Mary in March of 1996, they bought a house that became their forever home in Waldwick, NJ. In 1998, they welcomed their second child, James, and their family was complete.

LuAnne worked as a legal assistant in family law for many years, most recently as a Legal Assistant at Meyerson, Fox, & Conte, P.A. in Montvale, NJ. LuAnne treasured her coworkers, who over the last 7.5 years became more like a family and offered her a place of solace throughout her fight against cancer. LuAnne found comfort in her work throughout her treatments, rarely missing a day and never letting her diagnosis bring her down. When asked about how she was feeling, LuAnne would always respond “I’m good! Everything’s fine!”.

A gifted Italian cook, LuAnne could often be found in the kitchen, cooking to bring together those she loved, oftentimes doing so while simultaneously watching her beloved New York Mets regardless of the score. LuAnne had a gift of making everyone she met feel like family, remembering all of the little details about a person, whether she knew you for 30 years or 30 minutes. Above all, LuAnne loved being a mother, and considered her children her most prized accomplishment. She took an interest in all that her children did, and provided love, guidance, and shared many good times over a glass of Pinot Grigio with Mary and James’ friends over the years.

LuAnne will be remembered fondly as an embodiment of strength. She fought each obstacle thrown her way with dignity and positivity, and she will be missed beyond words by all that were fortunate enough to know her.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 28, 2024  4-8pm  at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
