Luis “Lou” E. Villalobos, age 87, of Pompton Plains and formerly of Stockholm, NJ, passed peacefully on Monday, March 9th, 2026.
Lou was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, to Higinio and Selenia Villalobos. He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife, Carole (Vander Berg), in 2019, and his brother, William, in 2022. Luis is survived by his sister, Violeta “Vicki” Valle of Delaware; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank & Kathy Giangrande of Clifton; and many generations of nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Lou.
Lou carried his camera everywhere and took great joy in capturing life's moments through its lens. He also had a profound love for aviation, often photographing airplanes in flight. He meticulously logged every detail, including the tail number, for each photo he took. He took these details and transferred them to the backs of the printed photographs, often after researching who owned the craft and its specific details.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19th, from 12:00 - 1:00 pm concluding with Military Honors at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lou’s memory can be made to St. Jude or The Aviation Hall of Fame and Museum of New Jersey.
