Marjorie Bandstra (nee Fylstra), learned nurse, beloved spouse, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went to be with her Lord on Christmas Day.
Born in 1918 during the Spanish Flu pandemic, she was a longtime resident of Prospect Park before moving to the Holland Christian Home in North Haledon in 2001.
Marge used her skills as a Registered Nurse to serve the Prospect Park Board of Health from 1964 until 1998, and the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, retiring in 1983. She also served as director of the Assistance Board in Prospect Park from 1971 until 1976, and on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat, where she was the volunteer coordinator from 1987 until 1997. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Holland Christian Home and the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff. She prayed daily by name for those she loved.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband Philip in 1976, her grandson Jonathon, her brother Edward Fylstra, and her sister Agnes Bandstra.
She is survived by her devoted children, Lorraine (Steen) and her husband Sam, Susan (Hartger) and her husband Harold, and James Bandstra and his wife Phyllis. To her last, Marge was a loving grandmother and “Opu” to her 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. We all miss her dearly.
A private graveside service will be held at the Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa. In lieu of flowers; memorial contributions in Marge’s name may be made to the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508 or the Holland Christian Home, 151 Graham Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
