Marjorie A. Fenkart (nee Ditmars), 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
She was born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. When Marjorie was in the sixth grade she met her very best and life-long friend Jeanne. They shared everything from walking home together from school each day, to listening to Perry Como on the radio in the basement.
After graduating high school Marjorie attended the University of Pennsylvania to study Nursing. It was during college that she met the man she would marry, Otto Fenkart, while he was attending Muhlenberg College. After a short courtship they married on April 7, 1951 at The Church of the Mediator located in Allentown.
The two left Allentown and began their life together in a fifth floor walkup in North Bergen, New Jersey. It was there that they started their own family. Their first son Craig was born in 1952 and their second son Douglas was born in 1954. As the family grew they moved into a new home in Paramus. Otto & Marjorie welcomed their third son, Scott, in 1957. In 1961 they relocated their family and put down roots in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Wyckoff Township would be where they would start their family business, Hillcrest Kennels. Marjorie was a devoted animal lover and over the years many dogs, cats, birds and even raccoons would find their home with the family. Their fourth son, Matthew, was born in 1965.
Marjorie was passionate about completing her nursing studies and attended Bergen Pines Nursing School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Later in life, she continued her nursing studies at Bergen Community College. She graduated in 1985 and became a Registered Nurse. For many years she worked in the Mahwah Public School System as a substitute school nurse. When she retired from nursing, she worked for the Wyckoff Police Department as a crossing guard.
Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband of 41 years, Otto R. Fenkart, in 1992 and their eldest son, Craig Fenkart in 1999.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas Fenkart, MD and his wife Andrea, Scott Fenkart and his wife Karen, and Matthew Fenkart and his wife Jane. She also leaves behind 7 amazing grandchildren Gregory (and his wife Casey), Bryan, Joshua (and his wife Joanna), Matthew Jr., Sarah, Hannah and John (Jack); and 2 great-grandchildren Addyson and Andrew.
Marjorie remained in the family home until 2001 before moving to Waldwick, New Jersey.
In her memory and in honor of her beloved husband, memorial donations can be made to the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 214, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
