Maurice Dockery, age 76, of Mahwah, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2025. He was born in Brevard, North Carolina.
He attended Mahwah High School before continuing his education at Lea College in Albert Lea, Minnesota, where he was a member of the wrestling team. He later attended Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ.
Maurice served in the United States Army as a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War. In recognition of his bravery while serving in the infantry, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Silver Star.
Maurice was a self-employed contractor and owner of Dockery Painting and A&M Decorating. He took pride in his work and built lasting relationships with his clients over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Adrienne; his children, Marissa Foust and her husband, John, and Stephen Dockery and his girlfriend, Michelle Hendry; his brother, Ralph Dockery and his wife, Cathy; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lois and Walter Killough; his brother-in-law, Joseph Calvello; and many nieces and nephews.
Maurice had many hobbies, including restoring British sports cars, playing the guitar, gardening, beekeeping, and making honey. He had a passion for working with his hands and was known for his ability to fix anything.
The family will receive friends on February 27, 2025, from 2 pm to 6 pm, followed by a service at 6 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ.
