Mildred Hansen, age 93 of Franklin Lakes, formerly of Waldwick, died Saturday August 26, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She passed away on the day that would have been her mother’s 117th birthday.
She was born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn on July 10, 1930 to the late Clara and Ragnvald Andersen She was the eldest child of 4 siblings (Thomas, Caroline and Raymond)
Mildred met the love of her life Stanley Hansen when he came to visit her family in December 1952. They married on May 9, 1953.
Eventually Stanley built them a new home in Waldwick NJ in 1955. They would go on to have 2 daughters Karen Marie and Janet and raise them in Waldwick and continued their story for 46 years there.
Stanley started a new business, Fjord construction in 1959 and Mildred was the bookkeeper for 36 years.
She was a member of the Waldwick United Methodist church, and active in the women’s club. She loved spending her time with her family and friends, the shore house, cruises, visiting family in Norway and traveling the world.
Their love story continued over the years, and they were able to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this past May with their loving family.
Mildred is survived by her loving husband Stanley, her daughters Karen Marie and Janet and by her adoring grandchildren Kristin (Ken), Jennifer (Jesse), Jon Stanley (Amanda), Bobby (Mary), Chelsea and Alexis. She was also blessed with 5 great-grand daughters Bridget, Harkin, Elizabeth, Jemma and Sloane. Mildred will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
The wake will be held at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481 on August 29th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at the funeral home at 9:00 am, followed by procession for a church service at the Waldwick United Methodist Church, 25 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick, NJ 07463 at 10:00 am, with burial at the Redeemer Cemetery, 90 Chapel Road, Mahwah, NJ 07430.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mildred’s name to either the Waldwick United Methodist Church, 25 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick, NJ 07463 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
