Mimi Christie passed away peacefully at her home in Ramsey, New Jersey, surrounded by her devoted family after a long, active, and wonderful life.
She was born in Queens, New York, to parents Allison Danzig and Dorothy Chapman Danzig. Mimi grew up in a loving home in Roslyn Estates, Long Island, along with sister Spaffy Danzig Hull and brother Duke Danzig.
Mimi’s father was an esteemed sports journalist for the New York Times who was particularly noted for his coverage of tennis. This began her love of the game when she was lucky enough to travel to the 1948 Summer Olympics in London on the S.S. America with the entire USA Olympic team.
Mimi graduated from Roslyn High School and was active in the community as a member of the Junior Board of North Shore University Hospital. She went on to study English at the University of Miami and later transferred to Cornell University. Her Greek life as a Kappa Kappa Gamma member was an important part of her college life, filled with vibrant stories and lifelong friendships.
During college she met Robert Whittaker, whom she married in 1951 and had two beautiful, kind children, Scott and Alison (Sunny.) While living in Wilmington, Mimi was active in the Delaware Theater Company. Acting onstage was a true passion of hers, one which she developed in high school. Mimi also volunteered as a member of the Board of Wilmington Hospital while raising her young children.
In 1967 the family was transferred and moved to Ramsey Golf and Country where she developed strong friendships and attended many social events. She was known as a lovely and welcoming hostess in her home on the lake. Mimi loved to be active and played golf, bridge, and paddle tennis weekly.
In 1972 she married her second husband, Charles (Chuck) Christie and was able to pursue her love to care for and serve others. She cooked for numerous homeless shelters and volunteered to deliver the leftover baked goods from Abma’s Farm weekly to the local shelters. For 20 years, Mimi volunteered as a waitress at the Kurth Cottage Restaurant at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
Mimi adored being a ballet teacher at the Ramsey Dance Academy where she taught for over ten years. Even in her final days, many local, young ballerinas would stop her in Shoprite to say, “Hi, Miss Mimi,” which she absolutely loved!
Along with her daughter Sunny, they volunteered at events for the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI and attended many court tennis matches and US opens over the years, honoring the sport her family so dearly loved.
Mimi was an avid bridge player, picking up the game in her college days. She was able to achieve the Bronze Life Master award in 2018 from the American Contract Bridge League at the tender age of 89. She loved playing bridge weekly at the Christ Church in Ridgewood.
She was also a loving and active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ramsey, NJ, where her funeral will be held. Mimi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck, her son
Scott, and her siblings Spaffy Hull and Duke Danzig. She is survived by her daughter Alison (Sunny) Whittaker; step-children Robert Christie and Patricia Christie (Guy Campbell); grandchildren Anna Kozma (Justin Harsh), Michael Kozma, Samantha Campbell (Luke Lehe); and her precious great-granddaughter Remi Harsh, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
She will be missed terribly by her family, friends and by every casual acquaintance who will never forget the sweet and friendly Mimi.
The Christie family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 4:30 - 7:30 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ 07481.

Mimi created a memorial fund in honor of her beloved son Scotty, when he passed in 1998. This charitable fund helps families in need covering the costs of burial of loved ones. Mimi’s generosity was extraordinary to those in need throughout her life. Mimi requested that donations be made in Scott’s honor:
