Casey, Nancy R (nee Scutari) of Glen Rock, NJ, adored wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on May 30, 2025 after a private and fierce battle with cancer. Nancy was born in New York, and moved to New Jersey as a child, and stayed there until she took her last breath. She loved nothing more than her family, including her husband of 47 years, Michael, her daughter Linda and her wife Megan and their two children, her siblings Joan and John and their families, and her sisters-in-law Eileen and Kathy and their families. Nancy was a lifelong lover of all animals, and she shared her life with many dogs who were all her beloved and furry children. Her home was her sanctuary, and she took such joy and pride in all of the beautiful collectibles she acquired across a lifetime. Nancy was well-liked by everyone she met, as it was hard not to love her open, kind, approachable, and easy-to-laugh demeanor.
Nancy was a much-loved elementary school teacher, spending the majority of her career teaching third grade at Academy of Our Lady in Glen Rock, NJ. She began her career there in 1998, and touched the lives of countless children until her retirement in 2018. She was passionate about her career as an educator, and was always up for creating unique lessons and bulletin boards, and creating a cozy, supportive, and welcoming environment for students from all walks of life. While Nancy was a prim and proper lady on the surface, she was always up for a good scary movie, including “B” movies from the ‘40s and ‘50s, laughing at many kinds of humor, designing and wearing an absurd and creative Halloween costume, or having spirited conversations about a wide variety of subjects. Nancy was truly beloved by all who met her, all of whom described her as a truly special person. No role suited her better than that of mother and grandmother. It was the joy of her life raising her daughter, and the joy only increased when her grandchildren came along and were able to spend so much time with her when she was their primary caretaker in her retired years.
She is pre-deceased by her dear parents, Ruth and Anthony Scutari, and many very special aunts and uncles and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to animal rescue organizations or a shelter of your choice are requested to honor Nancy’s unwavering love of those creatures without a voice.
