Neil H. Ekblom, Sr. Esq., age 62, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in West Islip, NY, grew up in London, UK and was a longtime resident of Ridgewood, NJ. Neil was the founding partner of the law firm, Ekblom & Partners, LLP based in New York, NY with offices in NJ and FL. Neil had a decorated career as a defense and corporate counsel representing healthcare professionals and business executives. He began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, later graduating to private practice where he was an equity partner in multiple AmLaw firms before starting his own practice. Neil was rated as an AV Preeminent Attorney with the Highest Possible Rating in both Legal Ability and Ethical Standards by Martindale Hubble. Neil was a graduate of the Eaton House School, Choate Rosemary Hall, Hobart College, and Georgetown University Law Center.
Neil is survived by his loving wife, Frances Hanson Ekblom, and his adoring children; Neil H. Ekblom, Jr. and Margaret H. Ekblom, all of Ridgewood. He is also survived by his sister, Maryann Cudd and her husband, Robert James, his brother, Harry Ekblom Jr. and his wife, Jane, his sister-in-law, Joanne Karoutsos and her husband, Paul, his brother-in-law, William Hanson and his wife, Lisa, and his mother-in-law, Ester Hanson. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his parents Harry and Elizabeth Ekblom, Sr., and his father-in-law William B. Hanson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ 07450, where Neil was a lifelong parishioner. The interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Neil’s memory may be made to the Dominican Friars Health Care Ministry of New York, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Department of Thoracic Surgery.
