Orrie Harris Smith

Orrie Harris Smith, 81 of Midland Park, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024. He was born in Teaneck New Jersey.  Orrie was avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He also was an amateur Hamm Radio operator and had participated with the Ramsey CERT team activities on occasion. He enjoyed classical music and was and voracious reader.  Orrie worked for Bergen County Social Services for over 40 years and dedicated his career to helping those in need.  He graduated from Midland Park High School and received a bachelors degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids Michigan and Masters Degree from William Paterson University.  A proud veteran Orrie served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church and a former member of the Allendale Rod and Gun Club.  Orrie is survived by his sister, Mary Jo Gilmour of Midland Park and his nephew John W. Gilmour of Bakersfield Vermont. He is predeceased by his parents, Orrie and Tryne Smith and his brother Thomas D. Smith.  

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday ,November 20,2024 from 10am -10:30am with a 10:30am Funeral Service at the Vander Plaat, Funeral Home 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ 07481.Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ 07652. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Orrie may be made to Midland Park Children's Love Fund P.O. Box 327 Midland Park ,NJ 07432
