Patricia Ann Harkin, affectionally known as Rita and Bear, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, she graduated from Aquinas High School and was married at Our Lady of Refuge before settling in Suffern, NY where she lovingly raised five children. Later she relocated to Oakland, NJ with her daughter and family.
Initially a homemaker, Patricia transitioned into a nursing career, working at Good Samaritan Hospital and then Ramapo Manor Nursing Home in Suffern. She retired in 1985.
Patricia was a devoted Catholic who valued Faith, Family and Friends more than anything else. She loved spending time with her aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her cherished family: sons Michael (Michele), Brian (Cindy), her daughters, Ann-Marie (Peter), Margaret (Peter) and daughter-in-law, Dani. She was exceptionally proud of her grandchildren: Kimberly, Megan, Jacob, David, Tanner, Riley, Kevin, Victor, Colin, and Christina. She was predeceased by Walter on March 6, 2025, and her beloved son, Kevin on November 19, 2010.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28th 5:00-7:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 29th 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Pompton Ave., Pompton Lakes, NJ.
Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, 980 Huron Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ.
