It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Peter Picone. Peter was born on December 5, 1937, to his late parents, Victor and Rose Picone.
A proud first-generation American, Peter carried deep pride in his family’s roots. His parents emigrated from Sicily through Ellis Island in the early 1900s in search of a better life and greater opportunity for their family.
Peter was born in Brooklyn, New York, and later moved to Ozone Park, New York, during his high school years. He attended Bushwick High School and later John Adams High School. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army. Peter received an honorable discharge following the passing of his father, Victor, so he could return home to care for his mother, Rose.
Peter began his professional career at UPS before pursuing a new path as an Allstate Insurance Agent. Through hard work, dedication, and his entrepreneurial spirit, he built a successful agency in Ridgewood, Queens, where he proudly served his community for many years.
Peter believed deeply in self-reliance, discipline, and the value of hard work. He carried himself with integrity, respected tradition and protocol, and expected respect and kindness from those around him. Above all else, Peter’s greatest priority was his family, whom he loved dearly and supported wholeheartedly throughout his life.
In his later years, Peter settled in Huntington, Long Island, before eventually moving to New Jersey to be closer to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Peter was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Nastro and Ann Pearce. He is survived by his daughter, Karen D’Ambrosi and her late husband, Jack; and his son, Richard Picone. He was a devoted Pop-Pop to his granddaughters, Jacqueline Scales and her husband, Justin; and Emily Slavin and her husband, Kevin. He was also the cherished great-grandfather of Cora and Ava Scales, and Maggie Slavin. Peter is also survived by his nephew, Craig Pearce.
A Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Burial will follow later that afternoon at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peters memory to St. Jude or Memorial Sloan Kettering.
