Raquel S. Kanian

Raquel S. Kanian passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the age of 65. Born in Brooklyn, NY she grew up in Puerto Rico before returning  to the U.S. settling in Wyckoff. Raquel last worked as a Pharmacist at Fabio’s Pharmacy in Union City – she was an avid reader and dedicated her life to her family.

Raquel was a teacher and mentor to many pharmacy technicians over the years, who all looked up to her with respect and admiration. Many of the pharmacy customers (Raquel called them her “patients”) knew her for decades and sought her advice on medical and personal matters.

Raquel was one of a kind who had great zest for life, family and friends. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She was loved and respected by all who knew her.

Raquel was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother (abuela). She is predeceased by her daughter Alina Lopez. She is survived by her loving husband of 16 years Mark A. Kanian; five children Christina Ketabchi  (Kourosh), Daniel Lopez, Mark Andrew Kanian (Gerling), Christopher P. Kanian (Jessica), Eric N. Kanian; six grandchildren Marcus, Ariana, Cyrus, Alice, Gabriella, Danielito; a sister Odette Santa (Mirza), a brother Rafael Santa (Wanda) and is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff with a funeral service to commence at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Raquel’s memory may be made to the Foundation for Women’s Cancer – Society of Gynecologic Oncology, 26533 Network Place, Chicago, Ill. 60673-1286 (foundationforwomenscancer.org) would be appreciated.
