Richard J. Duggan, 63; passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family in Charleston, SC.
Rich was born in New York City to the late Peg and Dan Duggan. Raised in the Highbridge and Riverdale sections of the Bronx, he spent many summers in Rockaway Beach, NY - a.k.a. the Irish Riviera. He was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and Manhattan College, where you could often find him selling beer at Yankee Stadium, at the Pinewood, or marching with the Jaspers at the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Rich had a brief career as a civil engineer before embarking on his 35 year Municipal Bond sales and trading career that took him from Kidder Peabody to Goldman Sachs and to USAA.
He met the love of his life one summer in Long Beach Island, where he and Janice would later frequently vacation. They married and eventually settled in Glen Rock, NJ to raise their family. Rich loved it there. He quickly got involved in St Catharine Church, as a Eucharistic Minister, and with Academy of Our Lady School, where he coached basketball and was President of the Fathers Guild. Rich also proudly served as Chaplain for the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department and was an active member of the Glen Rock Athletic Club. He made lifelong friends wherever he went. Rich was quick with not only a story - which were legendary- but also with love, advice, a lending hand, and a song. He was a good and loyal son, brother, nephew, cousin, father, husband and friend to many. He truly will be missed.
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Janice; his children, Richard of Hoboken, NJ; Katherine and her husband George of Houston, TX; and Daniel of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his brothers: Dan and his wife Nancy; Jim and his wife Tisha; his nephew Mike and his wife Kim; his nieces Grace and Caroline; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins who he loved dearly.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday December 9 from 7-9 and Friday December 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday December 11th at 10 a.m. at St. Catharine Church 905 Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Hawthorne, NY.
