Richard Martin Obituary

Richard Alan Martin, 62, of Oakland, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Born on September 30, 1963, in Ridgewood, he was the second of four children born to John and Elizabeth Martin.

After graduating from Eastern Christian High School, Rick dedicated himself to the plumbing trade and later fulfilled his dream of establishing his own business in 2001. On May 20, 1988, he married the love of his life, Sue Martin, and together they shared 37 years of marriage.

Rick will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering work ethic, compassion for others, and steadfast willingness to help anyone in need. His commitment to his church community, the Eastern Council Cadets, and most importantly his family, was a defining part of his life. He poured endless love and support into his children and cherished the role of father and grandfather.

Outside of his work and service to others, Rick found great joy in the things he loved most — cheering on the New York Giants, spending time hunting, and enjoying days on the golf course with family and friends. Those who knew him will remember his warm presence, sense of humor, and the lasting impact he made on everyone around him.

He is survived by his children and wife Sue Martin, his son; Jacob Richard Martin, and daughter-in-law, Casey Martin, as they await the arrival of their first son in June; and his daughter, Kay Lynn Totten, and son-in-law, Erik Totten, along with his cherished granddaughter, Natalia Totten. In addition to his siblings; Donna Moen, John Martin and Scott Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Martin.

A viewing and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rick’s name to the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department, Scott Plaza, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
