Robert Auger, 90, passed away peacefully on December 27th at his home in Wyckoff.
Born and raised in Nutley, Bob, as he was fondly known, led a life of integrity and hard work. He attended Nutley High School where he was a varsity athlete. Upon graduation he entered the Marine Corps where he served for four years. After discharge, Bob worked as a draftsman at Western Electric before moving to work at General Electric as a regional sales manager. During this time, Bob spent summers at the Jersey shore where he met the love of his life, Barbara.
Bob and Barbara began their lives together in Ridgewood before moving permanently to Wyckoff in 1970. There they raised their three daughters Kathleen, Susan, and Patti. Bob was an active member of both St. Elizabeth’s Church and School serving as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, school board member, and in a variety of other volunteer positions. Bob continued his career at General Electric, eventually moving to the GE Capital Division. After retiring from GE, Bob helped pioneer BMW Financial Services as Eastern Regional Manager. He retired from this position in 2002.
Bob enjoyed sailing, fishing, camping, skiing, gardening, traveling, hiking, tennis, the downtrodden Jets, the championship caliber Yankees, and most of all spending time with his beloved Barbara, three daughters, two sons-in-law, and eight grandchildren. Family gatherings at their homes in Wyckoff and the Jersey Shore were always filled with love and laughter. Bob’s greatest joys were being with his family and spending time on his sail and motorboats.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 64 years Barbara (nee Burke), his three daughters Kathleen Auger-Savino and her husband Mark; Susan Auger; and Patricia Gardecki and her husband Nicholas. Bob was a loving pop-pop to Emily and Christopher Savino; Courtney, Meghan, and Patrick Prendergast; and Nicole, Andrew, and James Gardecki. Bob also leaves behind his brother Lee of Long Beach Island, NJ; his brother Paul and wife Joy of Hollywood, FL; and his sister Peggy Beck and her husband Tom of Englishtown, NJ.
