Robert L Fiorini

Robert L. Fiorini 86, of Newark, NJ. passed away on Sunday July 12,2026.

Born and raised in Newark NJ. Robert carried with him a lifelong appreciation for education, community and family. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University before continuing his studies at New Jersey University where he received his master’s degree

His commitment to education led to a long and distinguished career culminating in his role as superintendent of the Essex County board of education in West Caldwell, NJ. He devoted many years to shaping students' lives and supporting educators.

Beyond his work as an educator Robert was a dedicated football coach at St Joseph’s High School where he inspired young athletes. The relationship he built with his students and players extended far beyond the classroom and playing field. He remained in touch with many of them throughout his life, taking pride in their accomplishments.

Earlier in life Robert also achieved the distinction of playing professional football for the New York Giants a testament to his determination, athleticism, and competitive spirit.

A devoted man of faith Robert was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Presentation in in Upper Saddle River where he remained active in his parish community for many years.

In retirement Robert embraced life with the same enthusiasm he brought to his career. He loved staying active through Zumba classes and long bike rides with his close-knit friends affectionately known as the PIPS “Previously Important People”. Their rides were filled with laughter, camaraderie, and countless cherished moments.

Robert was also a true foodie who delighted in discovering new restaurants and sharing meals with family and friends. He will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him.

Above all else being with his family was what mattered most to Bob.Weather gathering around the table enjoying traditional Italian meals or simply spending time together,he treasured every moment with those he loved.

Beloved husband of the Late Ann Fiorini. Loving brother to the late Caesar H. Fiorini and his late spouse Maria. Adored uncle of the late Caesar H. Fiorini Jr and his surviving spouse Rebecca,Linda Fiorini, Michael Fiorini, Luci Fiorini and grand uncle to Lucas Fiorini. Cherished friend of Barbara Manno. Dear stepfather of Paul Vander Wyden and his wife Laurie. A committal service is planned for Wednesday July 15,2026 11am at Maryrest Cemetery & Mausoleum 770 Darlington Road Mahwah, NJ 07430
