Robert Post "Bob" Obituary

Robert Leonard Post, of Hawthorne, N.J. and formally of Wyckoff, N.J. passed away at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, N.J. after a brief illness. He was planning on going home to his cat, and soothed worries that God would call him home before next year. He wanted another seafood dinner at the Jersey Shore, to join his granddaughter at Disney World, and one last hot dog all the way from the Hot Grill in Clifton, N.J. After each doctor appointment, he enjoyed his vanilla milkshake at his favourite eatery, Matthews Diner in Waldwick, N.J., missing his BFF's Helen and Elmer, whom he hadn't seen lately.

Bob died on Valentine's Day, at age 92,early in the morning. A few days before, he told his roommate about his upbringing in Paterson, N.J. He was born in 1928 to Martha and William Post, and while attending East Side High School, was walking behind a pretty strawberry blonde girl and her friend, mentally wishing she would turn around and look at him, and she did! He and that girl, Ruth Wiley, married eight years later, after he finished high school at Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia, attended Rutgers University, was President of his fraternity Sigma Delta Phi and joined the Marine Corps. In 1951, Bob returned home to start a long career in the family business, International Veiling Corporation in Clifton, N.J. as Vice President and Plant Foreman. In 1953, he and Ruth welcomed their first child, Susan, followed by Robert in 1955, Pamela in 1958, and Tamara in 1959.

Enjoying his years of leisure after more than forty years at IVC, Bob loved to tell stories of his travels while serving in the Marine Corps. He had the experience of his lifetime, patrolling the Mediterranean Sea as  Platoon Leader. Throughout the years, Bob loved to sing. Standing next to him in church, he could sing most hymns without looking at the hymnal, thanks to his years singing in DeMolay and the Marine Corps Choir. He loved songs from the 40's and 50's, and ended phone calls from his daughters and granddaughter with "I'll be Seeing You"....

Bob leaves behind his devoted daughters Pamela, Tamara, his son Robert, granddaughter Brooke, her husband Sean Dotson, son in law Douglas Garnett and his beloved cat, Ollie. His wife, Ruth and daughter, Susan sadly predeceased him in 2019 and 2020.

We will miss you, Poppy, and will remember your hearty chuckle, sense of humour, and twinkle in your eyes. Hopefully, you're enjoying your root beer and buffalo wings, and singing to Mom and Susie in your baritone, " Did you ever see a Dream walking? Well, I did! "....Sing and sleep with the Angels, Pop, knowing we loved you well.
