Robert E. Van Gurp age 80 of Midland Park, died peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Born in Paterson, Bob was raised in East Paterson before moving to Midland Park 50 years ago. He served his country proudly for 6 years in the United States Army. Upon his discharge Bob started his career with IBM where he worked as a Computer Technician until his retirement in 1992. In his later career he enjoyed working at the Model Railroad Post Office in West Milford. He was an avid Train collector enthusiast and would spend hours along the tracks observing and photographing.
Surviving are his devoted daughters, Lynn and her husband Roger Ver Hage, Charlene and her fiance’ Jimmy Rinehart and his son David Van Gurp. He was a loving grandfather to Luke and Robert Hintzen, Ashley Fischer, Jessica Van Gurp and Emma Ver Hage and adored pop pop to William, Ryleigh and Landon. Bob also leaves his sister, Carol Touw Richards and serveral nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Charlene (nee Crawford) in 2013.
The Van Gurp family will receive friends on Monday, September 20, 2021, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
