Ronald Manganaro Obituary

Ronald (Ron) Manganaro, age 91, of Upper Saddle River, passed away on March 11, 2024.

Ron shared a life-long passion for life, his family and his friends. He was a loving husband to Rosemarie, caring father to Lynn, Leigh and Peter Manganaro and son-in-laws Tom Gallagher and David Hartmann, and devoted grandfather to Trevor Shields and his fiancée Ashley Merritt, and Derin Hartmann. He also shared treasured friendships with Don Fairbairn, Jack Yurasek and Ray Cantwell, who he hiked and lunched with weekly. Ron will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Born on September 4, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, Ron was the son of Angelo Manganaro and Virginia Taranto.  He was the youngest of four children who grew up with a great love of food and family. He later moved to Fair Lawn, NJ, where he attended high school and prepared himself for his collegiate studies at the Newark College of Engineering, subsequently earning a degree in Civil Engineering.  As a professional engineer, Ron was especially proud of his role as Vice President of Environmental Construction for Yonkers Contracting, where he lent his talents to many projects in the New York metropolitan area.

Ron loved adventure. He was an avid skier for much of his life and took his family on many exciting trips, including skiing the Swiss Alps. He also loved sailing his boat on the Hudson and gathering with friends for festivities at the Nyack Boat Club. Closer to home, Ron enjoyed making improvements to the home he designed and built over 50 years ago.

Ron also shared a love of travel with his wife, Rosemarie, and together they enjoyed trips to many countries and throughout the national parks of the United States and Canada. Ron’s travels served as an inspiration to the many oil paintings he painted throughout his lifetime and that are proudly displayed at his home and that of his children.

While Ron loved to explore new places, he was most devoted to his home town of Upper Saddle River, where he was a little league coach for many years, an active participant in the Lion's Club and contributed to many environmental projects in the community.

Ron’s family will welcome visitors beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Vander Platt Funeral home at 257 Godwin Ave in Wyckoff, NJ.  A service in celebration of Ron will follow at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Upper Saddle River Ambulance Corp and Upper Saddle River Cares.
