Rose Montagnino, 92, passed away peacefully at home on January 17, 2021. Born in Manhattan, New York she was a longtime Brooklyn resident where she raised her family. Rose moved to Wyckoff, NJ in 1999 where she was affectionately known to her community as Grandma Rose. She was a proud graduate of New York University, class of 1950, where she excelled as an athlete in softball, tennis, field hockey, bowling, and basketball.
She was a physical education teacher at Bayridge High School and an Insurance Underwriter at Home Insurance Company. Rose loved spending her time walking to the Wyckoff Library where she regularly read through 3 books a week. She was active with the Wyckoff Seniors, Saint Elizabeth Seniors, & Red Hatters Club. She found great joy in volunteering at the Lincoln School Library, Valley Hospital Auxiliary – Allendale Chapter, and as a member of the American Association of University Women.
Rose is survived by her children, Joseph and his wife Susan of Anaheim Hills CA, Rosemary and her husband Thomas Vitale of Wyckoff, NJ, daughter-in-law Janna Montagnino, her beloved cousin Rosemarie DeRosa, niece Connie and her husband William Coleman, niece Mary and husband John Euler, niece Dr. Lee Ellen Morrone and her husband Joseph Fierro, and her grandchildren Kathryn, Matthew and Mikana. Rose is predeceased by her husband Michael in 2004, son Michael, her siblings Mary LoBrutto, Joseph Morrone and Raphael Morrone, grandson Javan, nephew Joseph Morrone and her parents Battista and Pasquale Morrone.
Visitation for Rose will be held 8:30am to 9:30am on Saturday January 23rd, 2021 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Mass is 10am at the St. Elizabeth’s Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. Burial will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
