Rosemarie Faust Obituary

Rosemarie Faust (1943-2021) passed away on June 3 after a battle with esophageal cancer, and a series of strokes.  Loving mother and wife, she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.  Her gentle presence, her soothing voice, her generous and compassionate nature, and her easy sense of humor, were a blessing to all who knew her.  Born, raised, and educated in Germany, Rosemarie became a highly sought-after Executive Assistant, the right hand of CEOs and Directors of several important companies. Known for her extraordinary people skills and her ability to exercise iron authority gently, she became invaluable to those fortunate enough to employ her.  A great and empathetic listener, Rosemarie would often find herself hearing the life stories of perfect strangers. She was also a most gracious hostess and accomplished cook, and therefore loved to entertain.

Rosemarie always loved the visual arts and music, with a particular interest in opera.  She also loved to travel, visiting innumerable countries all over the world. In fact, Rosemarie met her husband to be on an airplane as she was returning home from a vacation in the USA.  They liked to call it “love at first flight.”  After moving from Marburg an der Lahn to Teaneck, New Jersey to live with him, Rosemarie worked in the German translation section of the UN, which she found fascinating.  After marrying Scott Brubaker in 1982 and getting her Green Card, she returned to more lucrative work in the private sector.

Miraculously in 1994, days after moving to Allendale NJ, Rosemarie gave birth to her son Ryan Brubaker, at an advanced age that truly astounded her doctors!  She found great joy and challenge in raising him, and even taught him to read at age 4.  Together with her husband and son, Rosemarie continued to relish traveling to such disparate destinations as Japan, Maui, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. Rosemarie loved going to see operas and all classical music concerts, especially those of her brilliant violinist niece, Isabelle Faust.  She loved gardening and created beautiful landscapes at her home.  Additionally, Rosemarie developed impressive skills as a stain glass artist, producing some absolutely gorgeous pieces.  She also found time to be a designated Hospital Visitor for the West Side Presbyterian Church, lifting spirits and giving comfort to those in their time of need.

Rosemarie attracted a wide circle of friends, and especially enjoyed the Shady Ladies, who met frequently at Crestwood Lake in Allendale, and privately throughout the year, supporting and celebrating each other.  She will be missed keenly by all who knew her.
