Ruth Elizabeth Chambers, formerly Batterton, was born in Waterville, Connecticut on November 5, 1918.
On May 18, 1931, she was born again while at school, through Isaiah 53. She was received into fellowship in the Waterville Gospel Hall.
In the mid-1930s, she began a career in accounting, a career that would continue for almost sixty years.
In 1951, she married Ed Chambers, and was received into fellowship in the Summit, New Jersey Gospel Hall. She and Ed had two sons, Mark and Ted.
In 1957, in anticipation of a move to Wyckoff, New Jersey, she and Ed were received into the Gospel Hall at Midland Park, where both remained until their deaths. She and Ed loved to entertain. Preachers, missionaries, and other visitors were frequent house guests, and it was an unusual Sunday dinner that did not feature guests.
During the 1980s and 90s, Ed was Treasurer of the Gospel Hall Home for the Aged at Longport, New Jersey. Both of them spent many days of their retirement working at the Home.
Ed predeceased her in January, 2021. Ruth went to be with her Lord on the morning of Sunday, May 23, 2021. She leaves her two sons, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The Chambers family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 26, 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.
