Sandra Jean Pine, 63, of Hawthorne, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 18, 1961, in Hammond, Indiana, Sandra—known as Sandy to those who loved her—was raised in Highland, Indiana. She had lived in Hawthorne for over 35 years. Sandy met the love of her life, David Pine while attending Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1982, and they built a life together.
Sandy is survived by her devoted husband, David Pine; her two daughters, Sarah (Pine) Papsin and her husband, Steven, of Hoboken, and Marissa (Pine) Della Valle and her husband, Alex, of Verona; her sister, Cheryl (Bogielski) Peres and her husband, Steve, of Highland, Indiana; and her cherished grandchildren, Brody and Aiden Papsin. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Walter Bogielski.
Sandy's deep love for God, her family, and her friends was the cornerstone of her life. A passionate educator, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Master's degree from Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts. She taught elementary education and English as a Second Language for the Paterson Board of Education and retired in 2023 after a rewarding career.
A woman of incredible strength, fierce determination, and boundless love, Sandy will be remembered for her unwavering spirit and the positive impact on everyone she met. She was a fearless fighter, and her legacy of love and resilience will live on in all who knew her.
The Pine family will receive friends and family from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, New Jersey. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Hawthorne Gospel Church, 2000 Route 208, Hawthorne, New Jersey.
Memorial contributions may be made in Sandy's memory to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
