Sergio "Sam" Sciancalepore Obituary

Sergio “Sam” Sciancalepore of Tinton Falls, formally of Wyckoff, New Jersey passed peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the age of 92.

Born on April 16, 1929, in Molfetta Italy, he immigrated to New Jersey with his family soon after. Sergio proudly served in the army during the Korean War, where he earned the rank of Corporal. He loved his country and all the opportunity it afforded him.

After his return from service, he earned his Master Plumbers license and founded S&B Plumbing and Heating in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1969.   He was a mentor to many future plumbers, some of whom went on to start their own businesses.

During his professional life, he was a member of the Inner Circle Association, a philanthropic organization of Italian American businessmen who established scholarships for local Hoboken students.

Sergio’s many hobbies included gardening, renovation, catching up on the latest car trends and listening to his vast opera recordings.  He enjoyed travelling on cruise vacations with close friends and winter getaways to Florida.  He found his greatest happiness in later years spending time at his beach house in Lavallette, New Jersey where he created a focal point for all family gatherings. Boating and crabbing off the dock topped his list of his favorite activities. His summer day was usually capped off with a “nice” gin & tonic.

Sergio is survived by his loving wife Mary (Yurista). Both have been inseparable since their marriage on May 28, 1955.  He is also survived by his daughter Rosemarie Berman and husband Donald, his daughter Michele Egeberg, and his son Stephen Sciancalepore and wife Lisa.

His greatest pride were his five grandchildren—Lauren Deger (Kevin), Erika Egeberg, Christopher Sciancalepore, and Danielle Sciancalepore.  He is pre-deceased by his fifth grandchild Sam Berman.  Sergio was fortunate to welcome four great-grandchildren into this world--Charlie, Elliot, Jack, and Brooks.

Sergio is also survived by his brother, Gennaro (Jerry) of Union City, New Jersey as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital for Children or The Wounded Warrior Project.
