It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shrikant Gangadhar Joshi on November 30, 2024. He passed away peacefully at the age of 77 in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
Shrikant lived a remarkable and inspiring life. Born in Nagpur, India, he immigrated to the United States in the early 1970’s. After completing his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI - University of Bombay) in 1968, Shrikant received an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1971. After living in New York City, he moved to the suburbs and eventually settled in Old Tappan, New Jersey, where he lived for over 40 years. He dedicated more than 30 years as a mainframe systems engineer for the City of New York, completed several courses of study at the NYU School of Continuing Education, and pursued his entrepreneurial spirit by acquiring and managing residential real estate and investing in the stock market.
Beyond his professional achievements, Shrikant was well-read and a man of great wisdom, curiosity, and kindness. He favored simplicity over material wealth and immersed himself in subjects that he was passionate about, including Sanskrit, religion, philosophy, and world history. His love for education and knowledge was a guiding principle in his life, and he generously shared his insights during long, spirited conversations that will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Shrikant expressed his love in unique and thoughtful ways. His presence will be missed profoundly, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
The family invites you to honor Shrikant in ways that feel meaningful to you. They also welcome fond memories, stories, and photos that capture the special moments shared with him. Contributions may be shared directly with the family.
In his own words, written after his mother’s passing:
“The soul leaves the body in this way, with bliss and joy and light, only when its teachings on earth are complete for this lifetime.”
There will be a private service for family members on Wednesday, December 4th. The family extends their gratitude for the love and support during this time.
