Stanford Thompson (Tom) Pomeroy, 88, of Ridgewood, New Jersey, passed away at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon, NJ, after his battle with cancer on September 19, 2021. Tom was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and later went on to serve in the U.S. Army, earning the rank of Corporal with the 17th Signal Battalion in Germany during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Tom returned to Ridgewood to open Chestnut Garage, an auto repair shop. Tom held positions of Service Writer and Service Manager at Ford and Jaguar dealerships through the years and finished his career as an educator at Lincoln Tech in Union.
Tom had a lifelong passion for motorsports. Notably, he worked for Fred Opert Racing Team as Mechanic and supported a local professional motocross racer. Tom, a stoic man, will be remembered by his loved ones as a dedicated and intelligent father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was always able to have a thoughtful and logical answer for any obstacle.
Tom is predeceased by his wife, Cynthia Ellen, who passed in 1998. Tom is survived by his two children, Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Hardt and Marianne Langer. He had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
