Susan Keane

Susan (nee Hughes) Keane of Allendale, NJ on October 22, 2023 entered into eternal life peacefully surrounded by her family. She was the longest living resident of the State of New Jersey. Born in Long Island City, NY on October 14, 1912, the daughter of John and Mary Hughes. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter Leo Keane, who she met in Queens, NY and moved to Allendale in 1960. They married on November 20, 1948. She was also predeceased by her twin sister, Mary Theresa “Terry” McCullough and her sister Cecilia K. Hughes. She was the devoted and loving Mother of Susan Keane Vogel and her husband Steven of Franklin Lakes, NJ, and was predeceased by her son Peter Kevin Keane of Delray Beach, FL. Loving Grandmother of Erin Keane Devine and her husband James, Kevin Keane Vogel, Devon Keane Firestone and her husband Alexander, Michael Ross Keane and his wife Lai, and Nicole Collins Keane. Adored by her six Great Grandchildren Brett Leo Devine, Bryce Kenneth Devine, Brooke Taylor Devine, Brynn Harper Devine, Reagan Quinn Firestone and Rowan Keane Firestone, who provided light and laughter in her life. Susan was an active parishioner of Church of the Guardian Angel, Allendale, NJ.  She was a longtime volunteer of the Valley Hospital Kurth Cottage and the Allendale Auxiliary. She and her husband cherished their winters in Delray Beach, FL. Susan enjoyed hosting Friday and Sunday family dinners along with Holiday get-togethers. A few of her many hobbies included playing bridge, sewing and needlepoint. Above all else, she will be remembered by her warmth, her kindness and her unbelievable thoughtfulness toward each and every person who was blessed to cross paths with her. She will forever be cherished by her family and friends who she loved beyond measure. May her gentle soul rest in peace. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 4-8 pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10 am at Church of the Guardian Angel, Allendale, NJ. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the National Shrine of Saint Jude, Chicago, IL or Church of the Guardian Angel, Allendale, NJ.
