Suzanne L Cavalier

Suzanne L. Cavalier, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, surrounded by family. She was born in Long Branch, NJ in 1931 and lived there for 37 years before moving to Bergen County in 1972. She was predeceased by her spouse of 69 years, Richard J. Cavalier, who died in April 2020. She was also predeceased by her oldest daughter, Deborah Ann Sasso in 2000. She is survived by her son Peter (and spouse Marjorie) and two daughters: Theresa (Rob), and Suzanne E. (Edward). She has ten grandchildren (and their spouses): Lauren; Allyson (Jim); Matthew (Amanda); Joseph (Sarah); Michael (Kelly May); Christopher (Ashton); Katie; Casey (Keith); Connor and Ryan. She also leaves behind 11 great- grandchildren.

Suzanne graduated from Long Branch High School in 1948, where she was active in the school choral club. She worked as a secretary to the principal at Willard School in Ridgewood, NJ for 30 years. She also volunteered at the Kurth Cottage Gift Shop at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for over 20 years. Suzanne was a long-time member of the Women’s Clubs in West Long Branch and later, Wyckoff, NJ. A voracious reader, she enjoyed her book clubs and playing cards with her dear friends. She also thoroughly enjoyed the beaches of the Jersey Shore, playing piano, singing, cooking, and serving as a gracious host for many gatherings of family and friends. Her greatest joy in retirement was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 19, with the interment immediately following at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
