Tan Bor "Victor" Yee

Tan Bor “Victor” Yee, longtime resident of Ramsey, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2021, at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, at the age of 92.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, MeeLon Yee, who passed away in 2019, his parents, Yoc Tang Yee and Kam Gee Yee, His brother, Yue Sou Yee, and his sister, Yon Won Chin.

Tan Bor is survived by his daughter, Judy and her husband, Bill Cunnion of Lakewood, NJ, David and his wife, Jackie of Kinnelon, NJ, Kenneth and his wife, Denise of Brielle, NJ; his three grandsons, Alexander, Brandon, and Christian. He is also survived by many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews, and great grandnieces/nephews.

Born on February 12, 1929, in Toishan City, Kwantung Province, China, he came to the United States in 1947 and settled in Chinatown, in Manhattan. He married MeeLon on June 15, 1952. They moved to Ramsey in 1955, where they raised their three children, Judy, David, and Kenneth. Tan Bor opened Yee’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning on East Main Street, which he successfully operated for 33 years.

Tan Bor was very athletic during his youth.  He was a skilled volleyball player and captain of the Poy Ching Volleyball team in Chinatown, which won annual tournaments on the east coast for several years.  He enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the New York Mets and Knicks.  His other hobbies included bird watching and gardening.

After retiring in 1988, he and his wife enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in Kissimmee, Florida.  They also went on many cruises and several trips to the Far East, including visits to his home village in China. Tan Bor was particularly proud of being one of the principal benefactors who financed the construction of a community center and a road leading to his village.

Visitation will take place at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481, on Wednesday, October 20th, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Following a brief memorial service on Thursday, October 21st, at 11:00 am, interment will be at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, 255 Main Avenue, Clifton NJ.
