Thomas Amels Obituary

Thomas Glenn Amels, of West Milford passed away on Wednesday June 3, 2026. Born in Ridgewood, NJ, he grew up and lived many years in Wyckoff, NJ,  He also lived in Albany, NY  finally settling in West Milford, NJ for over 25 years. Tom lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to family and friends and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Thomas earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and remained a devoted Spartan fan throughout his life, proudly supporting his Alma Mater for decades.

Most recently Tom worked at Pfeiffer Vacuum based in Nashua, NH and spent many years working with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise based in France.  His strong work ethic, professionalism and ability to build lasting relationships earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike.

Tom, often referred to by his friends as "Too Tall" because of his proud 6'4" stature, was an avid fisherman who truly loved being outdoors. Whether it be deep sea fishing, casting a line on a quiet morning or enjoying time on the water with his son or friends, he found peace and happiness with nature. He was a proud member of the Muskie fish club of Greenwood Lake where he actively participated in efforts to stock local waters, helping to preserve and enhance the sport of fishing for future generations.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Reynold and Muriel Amels.  He is survived by his beloved son, John Amels, his brother Clifford Amels, niece Elizabeth Longli Amels, Aunt Wilma Sikkema. and friend and ex-wife Joann Macaluso. 

Cremation will be private.  A Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future.
