Thomas M. Farley, a marketing and public relations executive who worked in New York’s banking industry, died at home on December 1, surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of Bergen County, avid Mets fan, active volunteer and mentor to many, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Tom, Tara, Sean and Kevin; daughters-in-law Ellen and Lisa; and seven grandchildren: Michael, Matty, Kayla, Megan, Timmy, Megan and Ryan.
An alumnus of St. Peter’s University, in Jersey City, Tom experienced the thrill of a lifetime when his beloved St. Peter’s Peacocks became the Cinderella story of this year’s NCAA basketball championships, defying all odds and reaching the Elite Eight. That unexpected feat took place mere weeks after Tom himself was inducted into the university’s athletic hall of fame.
A versatile and accomplished athlete who in his younger years played baseball, basketball, football and ran track at St. Luke’s School, he took up golf as an adult, becoming an accomplished player who initiated the annual Presentation Knights of Columbus Golf Outing, in 2000, raising half a million dollars for a variety of charities to date.
He was an accomplished player of both the banjo and the ukulele, frequently leading his family in singalongs, particularly on St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas.
The family will receive guests at the Church of the Presentation on Wednesday, December 7, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The church will hold a Mass celebrating his life on Thursday, December 8, at 10:30 a.m. For more details, visit www.vpfh.com.
