Thomas Langbein Obituary

Thomas Kurt Langbein of Franklin Lakes, NJ died peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2022.

A proud Carlstadt, NJ native, he carried his hometown in his heart his entire life.

Tom attended Queen of Peace H.S in NJ and received both his Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University. As a young man fresh out of college Tom was on a mission to work hard yet never work for anyone but himself. He stayed true to his word.

Tom’s leadership spanned five decades and countless industries.  Tom founded Todd and Company, a stock brokerage firm that took many developing companies public. Tom ultimately became CEO of one of those companies; Automated Medical Labs which later became Medicore and its subsidiary, Dialysis Corporation of America. In 2010 Tom successfully sold Medicore & DCA but continued to stay active in other endeavors.

He served as President of Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, NJ from, 2008-2018. His commitment and love of his club earned him the title President Emeritus. He couldn’t have been more proud.

Tom also served as a member of the HUMC Children's Advisory Committee. He served as the recreation director of Franklin Lakes for 20 years and took pride in coaching his children in sports.

He was an avid Mets and Giants fan and rarely missed a game.  Sundays always meant great food and the Giants game. He and his buddy Ralph would call one another after any bad play and vehemently give their opinion on how the play should have gone.  Who should be fired, etc…. yet he always came back for more. While most men have a wine collection Tom had a candy closet that was always fully stocked. It’s where friends and family usually made a beeline when they entered his home.

He was the consummate gentleman.  He was humble, he was kind & his love transformed the lives of everyone he encountered. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, share him and evoke that same spirit of love in each person he knew.

He loved life, he loved his treasured friends & family, and the feeling was mutual, unless you were the person driving 30 mph in the fast lane or you accidentally ate his last box of milk duds.

While he loved exploring the world with his wife it was the simple things he cherished too. A walk, a sunset or watching his Grandchildren plays soccer.

While his loved ones are devastated by his loss; they know that he was a man of great faith and have comfort in knowing he is at peace now and reuniting with his loved ones.

He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend Mary Ellen.  His loving & devoted children & stepchildren.  Jeannine Fitzmaurice (David),  Christopher Langbein (Alisia), Lauren Arce & Logan Arce.  His cherished Grandchildren Andrew, James, and John Fitzmaurice & Emily & Charlee Langbein. His Brother George (Bernadette). He will be missed immensely by all of his cousins who he considered to be his sisters.  Ila, Lynn, Jane, Ann, Gayle & Loisann. He is predeceased by his Brother William Langbein.
