Thomas L Swift

Thomas Leggee Swift, 39, passed away August 27, 2023. Tom found the love of his life, Emily Sze, and they married in 2022.  In March 2023, Emily gave birth to their son Thomas Sze Swift.  Tom was utterly enthralled with his son Tommy and was the happiest and most engaged of fathers.  He died unexpectedly, and far too soon, peacefully in his sleep at the end of a long succession of “best days of his life”. In addition to Emily and Tommy, his survivors include his father, Thomas; his mother, Karen; and his sister, Logan. He was loved by many, including family, lifelong friends, fraternity brothers, co-workers; too many to name.

Tom graduated from Rutgers University in 2008. He joined the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and proudly wore his letters. For the last ten years, he has worked at Burgiss, a financial services company in Hoboken, NJ.

Tom loved games, including Dragons and Dungeons (“DND”), Deep Rock Galactic (“Diggy Hole”), and Wordle. A classic computer nerd, Tom preferred Star Trek to Star Wars, although he spent a suspicious amount of time playing as a Sith Lord. His puns and dad jokes were groan-inducing and many. He has been – and always will be – your friend.

A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 1:00 until 4:00pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ, 07481.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tom’s memorial fund.  All donations will go to his son’s 529 college fund.
