Thomas “Tom” Thompson, 87, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025.
Born in Lodi, NJ, Tom spent much of his life in Old Tappan and Hillsdale before residing in Midland Park for the past four years. He was a devoted husband to Martie (“Martha” Sweeting) for 67 years, a caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A man of integrity and kindness, he was deeply focused on his family and cherished his time with them.
Tom had a long and successful career, working for IBM for over 30 years before continuing his professional life at The Salisbury Hotel in New York City for 15 years. Outside of work, he was an avid golfer and a proud member of the Old Tappan Golf Club, where he spent countless hours enjoying the game he loved.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Laurie. He is survived by his wife, Martie, his daughter Linda Thompson, and his son-in-law Ken O’Brien. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Jessica (Josh), Tommy (Taryn), Danny, Billy, Megan, Michael, Chris, and Caitlin (Andrew), as well as his great-grandchildren, Mason, Hayleigh, Mack, and Mallory. Tom is also survived by his brother, John Thompson (Carol).
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 10:00 AM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff, NJ, followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
