Timothy Desmond

Timothy Desmond, age 82, of Matawan, NJ passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. 

Tim married the love of his life, Dorothea Owens in March 1963.  He was a devoted husband to Dottie (predeceased), loving father to Tim (Sandy), Christine (Don) and Colleen, and an adoring grandfather to Amanda, Bailey, Riley, Rob, Troy, Tyler and Tyler (Kerryann) who were the pride and joy of his life.

Tim was born to James and Mary Desmond on December 2, 1940, in Bayonne, NJ.  He was the fifth of six children.  He is predeceased by his brother Jim and sisters, Marie and Peggy.  He is survived by his brother Tom (Liz) and sister Rosalie.  He lived in Bayonne until moving to Matawan in 1982 and eventually retiring to Toms River, NJ.

Tim joined the Army after high school and was stationed in Berlin.  After the Army he joined the Bayonne Police Force and retired after 25 years of service.  He enjoyed golf, carpentry (helping many family members renovate their homes), his family and friends.

Friends and family are invited for visitation on Thursday, June 1 at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ) from 4pm – 7pm.  The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 2 at 10am at St. Luke’s Church (340 Franklin Tpke., Ho-ho-kus, NJ) followed immediately with a repass at Allendale Bar and Grill (67 W. Allendale Ave., Allendale, NJ).
